Freshly Made Sketches #146

Happy Friday! I'm posting this morning for Freshly Made Sketches and am actually ahead of my game this week! I usually don't get to sit down and post until Saturday. So, yay me! Here's this week's sketch by Amy at FMS:

My husband recently got home from a three month humanitarian mission and I am sooo happy he's back! While he was away, I couldn't send any mail, but since I was thinking how glad I was to have him home, I made this card for him anyway! Looking through my stamps for something welcoming, I found a mini stamp set from Inkadinkado with this cute birdhouse. I used Bazzill Kraft paper for the card base and panel and patterned paper from DCWV for the "washi tape". The circle is cut from Lil' Inker Designs stitched circles. The little bird clip and Hello button are from the dollar bin at my local Michael's. I used a Darice embossing folder for the "tree" effect. So, here is my little birdhouse hanging from a tree:

VLV July Week 3

Hi there,

Time really got away from me this month so I'm posting for  Viva la Verve week 3, before I post 1 or 2! Hopefully I'll be able to go back and get those done. Here's the sketch and inspiration:

All of the papers are "Recollections" from my local Michael's store except for the image stamped on Neenah Solar White. I chose stripes to match the straws but couldn't quite get that beautiful Tiffany blue. Verve stamp used is Birthday Surprise.  I used LaLa Land Honeycomb die along with Spellbinders Blossom 5 and Lacy Circles. Here's my sketch and inspiration combo:

Have a crafty day!

Freshly Made Sketches #145

Hello, and thanks for visiting! I'm posting my second card of the day which is for Freshly Made Sketches. The sketch this week is by Narelle:

I thought I would try something new to me which is stencils. I've purchased a few over the last few months and guessed it was time to try them out. I used a Tim Holtz stencil and three shades of Memento Ink. I inked the first layer, then cut the smaller layer and inked it up to line up with the bottom. The flower and leaves are from Hero Arts also stamped with Memento black and colored with Copics. There must be an easier and cleaner way to do this 'cause my finger tips are stained! Need to practice. Here's my card:

Have a sunny day!

The Shabby Tea Room #227

Hello! I'm posting a few cards today that I've worked on this week, starting with The Shabby Tea Room challenge #227 which is to create a card or project inspired by the photo with a summer theme, include at least three colors from the photo and one OR MORE of these items:  vellum/acetate, polka dots, ribbon!  Here's the fun, Summer photo:

Anyone else singing "yellow polka dot bikini?" This is a world away from the shabby I'm used to so I broke out my primary colors and my inner cuteness to create something just as fun! I started with Recollections red card base and used Die Cut With a View for the water and sand. I just cut the paper to size and then tore off strips. I used a Hero Arts stamp set with all the beachy images, stamped on Neenah White with Memento ink and colored with Copics. I fussy cut all of those and stuck them in between the layers. Can you see the little fish bubbles? I don't know what I'm going to do with this so I didn't add a sentiment. This may be a birthday card for later. I used vellum behind the tree palms and the ball for polka dots.

Enjoy your weekend and hope you all have some sun!

The Card Concept #14

Hello! Today I'm posting for The Card Concept challenge using this eye-popping inspiration photo. These colors are so awesome together. Here's their photo:

I pulled out some patterned paper from S.E.I. called Black Orchid that has similar colors to the photo. I went with a "clean and layered" style, making panels from teal and letting the red peek through from the mat beneath it. Then I cut the patterned paper in one piece to get the flower centered and then in threes. I admit I had to use my calculator for this! I cut a piece of red patterned paper from the pad with Lil Inker Designs stitched flower and the TCW "Hello" die in black (3 times) layered it and swabbed on some Glossy Accents to get the shine like the paper. Here's how it came out:

Thanks for visiting and blog on!

AHSC #64

Greetings! Here is a quick one I'm posting for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge, which is a lovely blog I just found a few days ago. I really like the idea of seeing the sketch prior to the DT posting their creations, 'cause I'll be honest and say that I can be influenced sometimes when I scroll through and something accidentally sticks in my mind! hahahaha Here is this week's sketch:

I used Kaisercraft lace and polka dot paper along with Neenah white and Recollections teal. I cut out two Spellbinders labels and tied it together with a Memory Box buckle. Added a few metals from my local craft store and - done! Does it count if there is no stamping? How lazy am I? Here's my card:

Thanks for looking!

TSTR #226 and MOJO #353

Hello,

I'm combining two challenges for this one because my time was very short this week! Sadly I didn't even get to post one card last week - but the good news is my hubby returned from being out of the country for a few months. So, YEAH! I'm playing with The Shabby Tea Room "Polka Dot Love" - use polka dots and flowers and also with this week's sketch at Mojo Monday. Here is the sketch and inspiration photo:

I used my Preppy Princess stack from Die Cut with a View for the patterned paper and Neenah for the card base and the image. The image and sentiment are "Tutu Sweet" set from Penny Black. The pierced oval and square are from My Favorite Things, the banner is Spellbinders, the leaf punch is Martha Stewart and the butterfly is EK Success. Here she is in all her "tutu" sweetness:

Thanks for stopping by!

Freshly Made Sketches #144

Here's the cool sketch by Karren at Freshly Made Sketches this week:

I'm posting from my phone which is wicked hard to do! My card is kind of a fashion statement to the variety of eyeglass wear being used as accessories which as a four eyes myself is awesome! . I used Prima All About Me paper and sentiment from Verve stamps. I hand cut three circles from the pad and crinkled them up to make the flower.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Shabby Tea Room #224

Hello shabby gals! They've done it again at The Shabby Tea Room with a beautiful inspiration photo and the challenge to create a BIRTHDAY card or project inspired by the photo USING PINKGREENand POLKA DOTS!

What an amazing photo! Each week I think I've seen a favorite and the next week I am inspired all over again. Pink and Green are one of my favorite color combos. For my card I used Wild Rose Studio "Annabelle's Garden" patterned paper along with Bazzill colored cardstock and Recollections polka dots for the bows. I also broke out this cutesy birthday stamp set from Wild Rose Studio called Happy Birthday Bunny which I colored with Copics, fussy cut and popped up for dimension. I decorated with Spellbinders Curved Borders Two, Spellbinders Heirloom Flourish, Lil' Inker Designs bows and the little birdhouse from La La Land, cut on coregated paper and inked a little on the edges. Isn't this bunny stamp a cutie:

Thanks so much for stopping by. Ta ta for now!

The Card Concept #12

Ahoy! This greeting is in reference to the nautical theme I'm playing at The Card Concept. Here's the inspiration photo:

I'm still trying to work in all the different card types, so I'm going to call this one Shabby Chic due to the mesh I added. This may be stretching it so feel free to let me know what type you think it is! I used DCWV Juniper Berry (blue/white polka dots), Recollections (red/white) and Recollections colored cardstock. I had the silver paper in my stash and don't know the maker. The sentiment, knots and anchor are from Avery Elle "Knotty" stamp set. Here's my card:

Have a crafty day!

Cardabilities #101

What beautiful possibilities with this week's sketch at Cardabilities! I really love their sketches which allow for lots and lots of flowers and embellies. Here's the sketch:

I made a tall and skinny wedding card, perfect size to enclose a check. The papers are Me & My Big Ideas (gold) Recollections (patterned) and Bazzil Pearl. The sentiment is Hero Arts "Everyday Sayings" embossed in gold and Prima background stamp for the script stamped on vellum. Also used Marianne Designs leaves, Spellbinders Labels 17 and Martha Stewart punch for the lace border. Then...lots and lots of flowers! There is a bit of crystal garland wound in the flowers. Here's my card:

Have a great day!

It was fun working with this sketch with all the panels. I used Recollections patterned paper and Bazzil colored cardstock. The stamp is from Clear Dollar Stamps stamped on Neenah Solar White with Memento ink and colored with Copics. The bow is from Lil' Inker Designs, the pierced squares are from My Favorite Things and I cut the top squares with Avery Elle Rounded Diamonds. Here's my card:

The Shabby Tea Room #223

Hello and Happy Summer! The first day of Summer dawned rainy and dreary here in Virginia. Thankfully it's looking beautiful this afternoon. I finally finished my project for The Shabby Tea Room just seconds ago. I had a couple of false starts this week, but am happy with the result. Here's the inspiration photo for this week  entitled "Pretty Gifts and Packaging" along with the challenge from Rebecca to create a gift or gift packaging inspired by the photo!  (bag, box, gift wrap, unique packaging, etc.) .

I actually started decorating a gift bag and realized that I submitted one not that long ago at The Shabby Tea Room. Then I remembered I had a box of jumbo bakery boxes in my cupboard that I used a few years ago to make baby gifts. I had a little shop on Etsy with baby clothes swirled to resemble cupcakes inside the decorated bakery boxes. I do still occasionally make them for friends 'cause I think they are so darn cute! Here are my project photos:

I used three patterned papers from DCWV Preppy Princess stack to cover the box then decorated with seam binding, pearls, lace and mulberry flowers. I used Spellbinders dies and gold hammered paper to make the "hardware" on the corners. The stamp is from Recollections "Baby Girl" stamped with Memento ink (the ribbon covered it up on the first photo, oops). I didn't need a baby gift just yet so instead of clothes I rolled some felt for the cupcakes and surrounded with tulle inside the box.

I had so much fun with this project! It's good to get away from making cards for a spell. Happy Crafting!

The Shabby Tea Room #222

Hello crafty friends! I'm happy to be playing along at The Shabby Tea Room this week and also super excited to be this week's Guest Designer. Our challenge this week is Lavender & Lace’ – create a card/project inspired by the photo using lavender, cream/white, lace/doilie + distressing. Here's the lovely inspiration photo in all it's lavender goodness:

How scrumptious is that? This would make a beautiful guest bedroom, you think? So this week I went off the card path and altered a picture frame. It's not my first, but it's the first that I have shared on my blog. I started with a naked wood frame and painted first with gesso, then with gray acrylic and lastly with white acrylic. Then I scrounged around my husband's work shelves and found some sandpaper and began distressing. That was actually kind of fun! I found the "recipe" on how to distress wood on Wikipedia. I took a doily, some white ribbon and some glitter tulle and made the corner ornament with lots of mulberry roses from Wild Orchid Crafts and Prima. I used Spellbinders Labels 8 and 17 for the background of DCWV Violet Leaf papers along with DCWV Foil Stack. I used the same papers for the dress which I drew and cut by hand. I drew teardrops for the bottom of the dress from 3 different patterns and glued them together. I added some lace on the top and bottom with some pearls for good measure! The mirror is Spellbinders "Mirror Mirror" die which I absolutely love. I cut the mirror with paper from the two DCWV pads. Lastly, I added a few embellies on the corners. Here's the finished product:

Thanks for looking and go create a fabulous day!
